Interview with Kristy Mickelsen

Hi Kristy Mickelsen, thank you for agreeing to this interview.
Oltobooks : Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Kristy Mickelsen : Kristy Mickelsen is a 44 year old wife and mother whose passions include reading, writing and spending time with her two young adult autistic children. She believes that writing is a creative way to express emotions that are sometimes hard to talk about such as love, lust, hate, depression and grief just to name a few. Kristy is also a podcast host for W.W.A.A. podcast, as well as an Author with a special interest in the romance genre. She is also an advocate for causes that are important to her based on some of her real life experiences. Causes such as cancer awareness after her father died from kidney cancer, autism awareness because both of her children have autism and lupus awareness because she herself is a lupus warrior. She often uses her books to help bring awareness to these causes by writing both fictional and non fictional stories with characters that face some of these issues in their lives.  Kristy is very active on most social media platforms and you can follow her on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Linkedin.
Oltobooks : What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Kristy Mickelsen : When I write I am hoping to connect with my readers about situations that we as people face in our everyday lives.
Oltobooks : When did you decide to become a writer?
Kristy Mickelsen : I decided to become a writer back in 2018 after my son saw me writing in a journal and asked me to try writing professionally. It was soon after that, when I published my first book and fell in love with the writing industry.
Oltobooks : Why do you write?
Kristy Mickelsen : I write to express emotions that are sometimes hard to talk about and it is a great way to escape my everyday stresses.
Oltobooks : What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
Kristy Mickelsen : When I found out I had chronic illness and I couldn't work a regular 9 to 5 job anymore I knew I had to do something to help support my family.
Oltobooks : Where do your ideas come from?
Kristy Mickelsen : Now that's the crazy thing. My ideas usually come to me while I am laying in bed with my eyes closed. I will be trying to relax and then all of a sudden I am jumping out of bed to write down the thought that popped in to my head about a possible new book.
Oltobooks : What is the hardest thing about writing?
Kristy Mickelsen : I would have to say the hardest thing about writing is being consistent. What I mean is making writing a habit and sitting down and doing a little each day. It is easy to get side tracked when your daily life is so busy. But consistency is very important in this business.
Oltobooks : What is the easiest thing about writing?
Kristy Mickelsen : The easy thing about writing is getting to express your every thought and emotion without someone making you feel ridiculous at the time you are feeling them.
Oltobooks : If this book is part of a series, tell us a little about it?
Kristy Mickelsen : Right now my last Novel written A Christmas To Remember was not a part of a series but there is a new series in the works that I will be telling people about soon.
Oltobooks : What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
Kristy Mickelsen : I think book series are great! They give the writer a chance to really run with thier story idea and build a whole new world and or concept for an idea that they came up with.
Oltobooks : What is your favourite positive saying?
Kristy Mickelsen : My favorite positive saying is There is no such thing as the words I cant.. Only I will!
Oltobooks : Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Kristy Mickelsen : In 5 years time I see myself still writing, still using my voice to encourage others and to advocate for causes that are important to me. I beilive that together we can make a difference.
Oltobooks : What advice would you give to your younger self?
Kristy Mickelsen : I would tell my younger self to keep working even when times get tough. That I can achieve anything I want to and I can make a difference in someone's life.

Latest Poem

In my Room long ago
I sat so merry in my abode
Loving hands around me
I dreamt of such glorious days
One day i would see

I remember the day I left
My room
I closed the door behind me
One quick look again
Then walked away
The room which would always remind me

The glorious days I had dreamt
I did merrily spent
How little did I then know
Life turns on a dime
My room is now not as it was
When I closed the door
Behind me

My room now is a prison
But not how one would invision
It is one of sorrow and grief
Sadness burns into the bare walls
I catch my breath
And weep

Why did thou'st doth betray?
The room which once embraced me
I ask with riddled heart
Jagged and torn
Which wicked riddles have I thus sought?

I sit still
I am now my room
No dreams as once before
I age before my open door

In my room long ago
I sat merrily in my loving abode
Loving hands did hold me
All gone

My room and myself
Now one
Two thrust to be together
Forever
Alone
